Free as a Feather

Once you believe that anything you want is attainable, the world becomes a place full of opportunity and hope.

Wednesday musings

“…and now nothing they have imagined they can do will be impossible for them.”(Genesis 11:6, AMP)

Such a lovely verse. Isn’t it wonderful to think that God gave us the ability to materialize our thoughts through simply calling on him? This incredible power working in all of us is our life source in achieving our dreams. It’s really amazing if you think about it. Nothing is too big.

October 9 workout recap

6 mi run (1 mi warmup, 2X2 mi @ < 10 sec of goal hm pace with 4 min rest, 1 mi cooldown)

25 min circuit (Instead of the pump: “Life’s a Bench” which can be found here)

The transitions from warmup —> workout —> break —> workout —> cooldown made this run one you’ll see a repeat of in the near future. They broke up the run nicely, and for someone who has only considered 1 mi a “warmup” in theory, they certainly changed the way I view my first and final miles. All in all, 6.35 mi were completed in under 55 min. My paces are as follows: 9:02 mi 1/warmup, 8:30 mi 2, 8:49 mi 3 (slowing way down to my goal hm pace), active break, 8:37 mi 4, 8:45 mi 5, 9:02 mi 6/cooldown.

I  didn’t really follow the plan in terms of the “< 10 sec of goal hm pace” but the toggling felt natural.

Eats

1638 calories yesterday (52% carbs, 14% protein, 34% fat). Felt quite full and wasn’t happy with the ratio but there is always room for improvement!

Some treats I can’t rave enough about:

Joelle’s Paleo “Oatmeal” <— I’ve had it for breakfast every morning. So light and seemingly carby (but it’s not). Perfect.

Chopped apple and walnut salad <— half a chopped Honeycrisp apple, walnuts, and a couple grinds of sea salt with a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette served atop a bed of spinach. Divine.

Stats:

Weight: 132.6 (1.2 lb loss since yesterday!)

Pounds to go: 14

Mood: Happy

Energy: Was low but is much better

Happy Wednesday!

October training

27 days until first 15k and 2 months until first half! Can you tell I’m pumped?!

Even though we’re well into October, here’s a look at my training schedule to prepare for the big day:

It’s tentative in that I know there will be scheduling conflicts, but the most important workouts will be the ones that get me to November 3: long runs. I dread them, but they’re inevitable if this half (that I’ve already registered for) is going to happen.

October and November are especially important in terms of fueling my body with the right foods so I’ll have the energy and stamina to make it through these runs. On that note, it’s essential that I eat clean, whole foods with minimal processing. Sure, it’s football season…. I’ll roll with a maker’s and coke (or a nice glass of cabernet) like the next gal, but moderation is key.

Lastly, goals:

1. Through running a half marathon, I will reach my goal weight of 118.

2. Through running a half marathon, I will develop a genuine passion for running.

How I’ll get there:

Consistency in healthy eating, training, and sleeping. And a whole lot of prayer and meditation! I’ll be using this blog to document my progress (weight, mood, energy levels, etc) through weekly posts.

Oct 9 stats:

Height: 5’5

Weight: 133.8

Pounds to go: 15

Mood: Happy but mellow

Energy: Low

Zen out, y’all.

Declarations

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.” -Matthew 25:21

There are so many things about this verse that can apply to anyone at any stage of their life, but for me, this verse is especially significant now. As a 20 something grad starting a new chapter, there have been plenty of times where I’ve questioned if I’m on the right road - only to confirm, after a lot of praying and a good bit of soul searching, that I am. Having faith and trust are both things I’ve struggled with in the past, and really any one who’s ever had a dream or set goals can agree that believing in that dream, having the faith you will reach that goal can be really hard. So… today, I declare to take steps to reach my goals, and while I may not reach all of them today, I’ll still be one step closer than I was yesterday.

Happy October!
